It’s official! Simon Bornhoft has signed with Starboard as part of an extensive 3 year deal.
Already part of the Tushingham team, Simon’s involvement in windsurfing has been incredibly extensive and he will bring a lot of experience to the brand.
Most recently Simon has been the architect and campaigner of modern coaching methods, much of which have been used to re-write the RYA national coaching system and create innovative coaching features. Simon is very keen to be riding the stunning new 2009 Starboard range and will be offering all his Windwise clients the chance to demo the Starboard 2009 range and new Tushingham rigs on his rapidly expanding ‘Winds of the world Tour’ courses and seminars in the UK and abroad.
Speaking on teaming up with Starboard Simon says, “I’m very lucky to spend a lot of time working on the water. So what could be better than commuting, coaching and freesailing on the worlds leading board brand. Just like our coaching system, the boards add a real advantage to your sailing and put the emphasis on ease, performance and having a fabulous time on the water.”

F2 restructure and spring back into action with the signing of Zara Davis the UKs Queen of speed. Zara has been recovering from a badly broken foot that she injured in competition last year and the news of the interest in her from F2 has given her even more incentive to get back to full fitness. Tamzin from Ultra Sport Europe the importers of F2 in the UK said “With F2 international now firmly back on track. We felt it the right time to talk to Zara who is without doubt a fantastic speedsailor and a great ambassador for the brand. She will undoubtedly go quicker with the new 2008 speed and slalom boards shaped By Patrick Diethelm who recently set a new men’s production record on the Missile of 46.57 knots. Who knows what Zara can do?”
Zara is also sponsored by Gaastra, Dakine, Spartan, Maui Jim and Walnut Grove Clinic.

On hand to film the acion and the ensuing carnage were Pete and Ingrid. A mixture adrenalin and sponsors with deep pockets is the only way to describe what follows.

The end of this month sees a large rise in the retail cost of many pieces of windsurfing kit. The worst case is boards which in some cases will rise by £140.
This is not down to greed by the brands or distributors but, due to the weak Pound compared to the Euro.
Unfortunately, most windsurfing kit is costed in in Euro's. This time last year 1000euro cost £660, today it would cost £789.
One importer says "We have been continuing to absorb the extra costs but the gap is rapidly growing. Combine this with increased fuel and transport cost and we have had to act, something we really did not want to do in an already struggling market"
Am I loosing the plot, crawled out of my tent at 5am to watch the sun coming over the mountain before heading to the water with a SUP board. To be honest I thought my camping days were over and as for the SUP boards, well lets just say I tried it but didn’t understand what all the fuss was about, why paddle when a rig will do.
The National Windsurfing Festival got off with a great out and back race off of Hayling Island beach. Matt Pearch showed the way around the course, but Ninja Turtles and ’90s kit were also spotted on the water!
