Monday 3 25 24 morning call

Hookipa yesterday. Photo by Jimmie Hepp from this album.

Just like yesterday, Hookipa got bigger at sunset with the arrival of the first sets of a new long period swell.

The strong easterly wind of the last couple of days provided for some wild downwind conditions. Yesterday Mauidownwindfoil set up another unofficial practice race. Kane De Wilde flew from Maliko to the harbor in an unbelievable 27 minutes and 19 seconds and pretty much everyone else set a personal record. I was on an Eagle 690, fell once and touched down (and restarted immediately thanks to the Foil Drive) about 5 times. Again, don't make the mistake to compare my time to the others, as the advantage of the free take-offs provided by the Foil Drive is huge. Btw, I have one Gen 2 Max available at Hi-Tech. I'll be there today 2 to 6, or contact me via email (link on the right) if interested.

NW swell peaked yesterday and today will slowly decline from that 2.8ft 15s reading at Pauwela. The NW buoy shows an impressive 3ft 21s of a new swell that will arrive tonight (1.8ft 21s at 6pm predicted by Surfline) and become pretty solid tomorrow (5ft 15s). Below are the maps of March 20 through 24 that show the fetch that generated it. Home guess for Hookipa today is around head and a half to double.

The NW swell we discussed yesterday is in line with the forecast. Yesterday was too west to do much locally, today it should be felt more, although with a inconsistent arrival of sets. Home guess for Hookipa is around head high or more in the morning, bulding up to double overhead at sunset.
