Gone Surfing Crete – Kouremenos delivers!

The combination of a High barometric pressure on the Eastern Mediterranean Sea and a Low over the Balkans result in the meltemi wind which prevails during the summer months in Aegean Sea. Two weeks ago this combination brought some tons of northerly wind and huge smiles to those who got to sail and ride.

Christos Zimatikas, a good friend of mine and a co-owner of the Gone Surfing Crete, a well known windsurfing center at Sitia Crete reports:

On that day in particular the East part of Crete saw some 30-40ktn of North-NorthWest winds and huge swell hitting the shores. Conditions were calling for some search on the spots of north part of Crete but soon we had to come back to Kouremenos cause Faneromeni was reserved for those with suicidal tendencies symptoms and Sitia’s beach has been closed after a port police order.

Kouremenos is certainly not a wave spot but it’s these 4-5 days per year that it all comes together and we can enjoy  some riding and jumping right in front of our windsurfing center! It was a 3-7 to 4,4 weather, sideshore with some head high sets rolling. To be honest I couldn’t ask for something better, one week before the end of our summer season in our windsurf club.
