JP HydroFoils win in Denmark

This weekend the 3rd event of the Danish Racing Series took place in Rønbjerg. It was a very successful event with 40 participants, excellent wind and sun and a total of 4 slalom series and 3 Formula races.

The astounding news is that for the first time – at least in this region – it was a foil that won the slalom event. Sebastian Kornum took the podium with a series of #1, #1, #1, #4. He could not match the top speed of the best on slalom boards, but he advanced 50-75 meters in the jibes which was enough to win.

In the formula races it was even more exciting, because 3 racers on JP gear came top!Already in the past Sebastian proved that he was hard to beat in this discipline and he easily won with up 3,5 minutes ahead of the best FW sailors. But on 2nd place we did also have a foil. Peter Nors switched to foiling only a couple of months ago but made four easy 2nd places. Until then, he had never finished top-3 on a formula board.

Here are the foil results and the list of equipment used:1. Sebastian Kornum – JP HydroFoil 135 Pro / F4 foil / Evo92. Peter Nors – JP HydroFoil 135 FullWood / F4 foil / Evo94. Torben Kornum – JP HydroFoil 135 Pro / RS:X foil / RS:Flight

Congratulations to the Danish JP riders!

——Sebastian Kornum reports:“I learned a lot this weekend and I am very happy that I sticked to my decision of competing on foil in the slalom division. The slalom course was very long and had only 3 gybes with the wind variing from 13-20 knots. I was on fully powered on 7,0m2, and the top 10 guys where on 8,6m2. It surprised that I was matching speed with the fastest, but they always had a little edge – especially on the first leg. For the other legs I could stay with them, and make my attack in or just after the gybes by carrying more momentum. I still can’t believe I won this.

The key was definitely to not touch the water, and stay very concentrated. It was hard on the long course. The amount of adrenaline is unique and this was even just a National race.

In formula we also had a race below wind limits which got cancelled. Also in this race I was far ahead with 7,8m2.”
