Buying windsurfing equipment is becoming more and more complicated. No one has a van full of different 5.5m sails. If it’s 5.5m weather you need a sail that will deliver, whatever the conditions! It’s our job to identify what’s required and to make it work! We have spent the last 18 months developing and testing the sails to ensure we had the best product and are delighted with the results and overall feel of the sails.
For customers with specific requirements we’re keeping our specialist sails. The popular Rock for hardcore wave, the X-15 for speed/slalom and of course, the championship winning XR Race together with the full range of entry level sails (Start, Dino, Concept and Easy).
What have we done?
Rather than simply amalgamating the four outgoing sails, we’ve stepped back, taken a long hard look at what the real world windsurfer requires and then redesigned the total windsurfing experience. Here we have a sail range that changes in style and configuration as it increases in size but maintains a lightweight, smooth feeling throughout. We have given you the right tool for the right time!
In sizes from 4.0m up to 6.5m we’ve made extensive use of the PXB05 Aramid laminate already proven in the ‘Rock’, combined with our new ‘Load Dispersion System‘. This transfers loads across the sail from the clew to reduce stress and stabilise the foil for a very balanced feeling. We’ve added integrated tack pulleys across the whole range to make rigging easier and strengthened the adjustable head cap system on the sails where this is employed.
Reasoning
Can a customer really wade through all the ‘guff’ and flowery text that’s written in brochures and tests and make the right decision? When windsurfing was popular it was simple! If you’re out on a 5.5m the conditions will change; you simply need a sail that will work whatever you throw at it. The ‘Bolt’ is that sail, it will do the job; and for the shop, with less sails in the range, you may even have one on the shelf!
We looked at who was buying our equipment and aimed for a range that would be loved by our customers, by clubs, holiday centres and students alike. We also wanted to make sure there was a consistent look across the whole range, taking inspiration from our other more specialist sails.
We’ve long held a reputation for making sails that are focussed on the everyday windsurfer. Easy rigging, a massive wind range, great performance and handling, durability – built to last with high residual values. These are the driving forces behind all the changes we’ve implemented.
The Range
The Bolt range consists of 13 sails, progressing from a nimble four batten 4.0m all the way up to a seven batten twin cam 9.5m powerhouse. Full details of each sail can be found on the following pages but the global overview of sizes and configurations is as follows:
