What A day…………..
Posted on 23 August, 2015 Neil Greentree
Well as I sit here after enjoying one of the best sails at wells I probably ever had and receiving text after text from fellow sailors who are still buzzing from the day we have all enjoyed, I received a text from a customer and friend ~~Kevin frost who travelled up from Suffolk on the forecast. He has just changed his board and bought a new RRD Firewave 102 and wanted to tell me what a great day he had had.So I suggested he tell the story of today in his words:
Today in Kevin’s words…….
After returning home from what must have been one of my best days windsurfing I’ve had at Wells for a long time.
I got to try out my new rrd firewave 102 ltd using a 5.2m severne swat. The conditions were ESEasterly and the ramps in the channel area were the best I’ve seen at 2-3ft and real clean.
Now I was a little concerned as to whether I’d chosen the right board as I’ve always had the fsw in this, or around this kind of volume, and after seeking advice from RRD, they all swayed me towards the fsw 100 v3.
Having used the fsw in Vass alot recently on vacation, I felt it a little too safe for what I wanted. Don’t get me wrong, the fsw is a great board ,doing everything asked of it very well but also very easily, hence wanting something a little more exciting .
Boy , was I not disappointed with the firewave. It’s super quick onto the plane, really fast in a straight line, alot faster than I was expecting, jumps and lands like a dream and gybes so tight if wanted, in fact this caught me out on more than one occasion( better technique needed on my behalf).
Now this was my first time out on the Firewave and have got to say, having gone against advice from several people , all saying the FSW was more suitable for the type of sailing I do, I believe I’ve definitely made the right choice.
The firewave does everything I want it to do with far more excitement and feedback. I think maybe a little more skill is needed to sail it, but as with all rrd boards they are very user friendly ,as is this.
Definitely made the right choice.
Absolutely superb !!!!!!;Kev Frost
I chose to head straight ‘Out the back’ which is the sea beyond the bay in search of waves and bigger water state………. and Wells didn’t let me down. 3/4 mast high friendly waves stacking up one after the other and about 6 of us were out there for 3 hours. It was reminicent of Kanaha or Sprecks in Maui with clean wave faces which invited you to ride them if you dare. But if you got it wrong the wave simply washed over you without any impact or danger. I was on my 4.8 S-1 Pro and brand new Fanatic Freewave 86 Textreme which were perfect for the jumping heaven and the backside wave riding we experienced. To say this was a good day is a massive understatement………..It was an Epic day!!!
