2012 AWT Maui Makani Classic

2012 AWT Maui Makani ClassicProfessional windsurfing competition returns to Maui this week with the return of the American Windsurfing Tour’s Maui Makani Classic. Registration kicks off Wednesday evening with the first day of potential competition on Thursday. See the full schedule of events below and stay tuned to the AWT site and AWT Facebook page for the most up-to-date announcements.

It’s looking like the wind will be a bit on the light side for the first day of potential competition as winds are forecast to weaken and turn south of east beginning on Tuesday this week.  A new high pressure is forecast to build in by Saturday though which should usher in stronger trade winds.

As for the north shore surf forecast, weather models agree that a jet trough and surface low pressure should track from Kamchatka to the dateline on Monday and Tuesday. This gives the potential for  NW to NNW surf within moderate to marginally high arriving sometime during the Friday to Saturday time frame.

If you’re not able to be on Maui for the event, you’ll still be able to follow the competition live with the AWT Livecast.
