Looking Ahead to 2013

Looking Ahead to 2013Happy New Year everyone! The new year has kicked off on Maui with a ginormous north shore swell and raging winds. Winds today have been gusting over 40, similar to what they’ve done the last few days. Way too bumpy and gnarly and squally for me to enjoy and not worth the risk of re-injuring myself.

Since it’s the start of a new year I thought I’d share some some windsurfing events I know about coming up this year. If you’re looking for a windsurfing clinic, Matt Pritchard and Shawna Cropas have set their Aloha Windsurfing Clinics Maui schedule:

Aloha Windsurfing Clinics 2013
Four Seasons Resort Special Event
March 2nd-7th

March 23rd – 30th
May 18th – 25th
June 23rd – 30th
Oct 12th-19th

For those interested in racing, I still haven’t receive official word yet of the dates for this year’s Maui Race Series, but typically the first race is the first Saturday in June and then every other Saturday after that, usually through the end of July. I’ll post more about that when I learn about it, here and on MauiRaceSeries.com.

And, if you’re serious about wave sailing competition, the American Windsurfing Tour is lining up its events for 2013. The Maui Makani Classic is currently scheduled for October 24 through November 2. Keep up to date with all the AWT news at the AWT site.

Moving on to “in case you missed it” items, Fish Bowl Diaries recently published an interview with Maui windsuring legend Josh Stone with some fantastic photos.

And last, we’ll finish off with a nice video of Quattro shaper Keith Teboul shredding Hookipa.
