BWA Master Champion

BWA Master Champion

I started competing in the  BWA wave series three years ago and while becoming BWA Masters Champion a goal it was one I never expected to reach. In truth I haven’t, Big Davey, Jan Sleigh or Dave Ewer could all have won the series easily, they’d just have to do more events to rack up the scores. That might sound like I’m being negative or not enjoying the title, it’s quite the opposite, being in the finals alongside these and others was enough to know I’d reach my personal goal to improve my wave sailing.

We’re all motivated to learn in different ways and for me competition is my key, out side of it I don’t seem to be able to push myself enough. Forwards are a great example, couldn’t or maybe wouldn’t even try them on port tack yet last week I landed a few in the Aberdovey river on relatively flat water, without the heats in Tiree and Cornwall that simply wouldn’t have happened. Both event had port tack jumping so I had no choice to forward on port, ok so it wasn’t so pretty but with each heat the confidence gets better, then all of a sudden it feels kind of right. So yes, I’m really happy with my year.
