Ask Black Project Fins a question! Here is Black Project Fin's owner Chris Freeman's answer to a commonly received query about improving the performance of a production windsurfing board:
We get lots of emails from all over the world asking about which fins should be used for different riders, different conditions and importantly different boards. No board is perfectly suited to our requirements, all need a little tuning so that we can get the most out of our investment. We can look at foot straps, mast track position and also the fins. It is true to say that over the past 30 years the fins which you receive with production boards has improved however the advantages that can be gained by changing the fin for a Black Project Fin are considerable and apply to riders of all abilities.
Changing your fin is like changing the wheels on a car, if you have ever tried to drive your car in the snow and ice with normal tires and then switched to chains then you’ll totally understand where I am coming from. Quite simply changing your fin is the easiest way to improve the performance and adapt the board to your conditions, your style, your sail etc. It is all about balance and do not assume that you will get that out of the box, in fact assume that you will not because production board companies are given an impossible task in deciding what fin to supply with their boards.
By changing the fins or expanding your quiver you can increase the range of your board with the aim of being able to go to the beach with less boards. Why carry two boards when you can take one and an extra set of fins, this also helps to save you money.
We are in the process of producing a series of guides for all major 2014 production boards so that you can look up your board and pick the best possible fins to increase the amount of fun that you have on the water. So far we have a few completed and will be adding more, if your board is not covered so far please contact us and we will be happy to assist.
Today’s feature is the most popular 2014 Fanatic windsurf boards, we have worked closely with a number of riders including Ant Baker, Ingrid Larouche and more to ensure that you benefit from the experience of our team on your boards. Click on this image to download the PDF document.
