Where Is The Wind? July Part 2

After the slightly disappointing Morocco trip I was fearful that July would be as calm as June – and so it seemed to be for much of the country and particularly the south coast. Luckily the west north west breezes that the latter half of July produced are the perfect orientation to be accelerated into the Bristol Channel.
So whilst the south of England was becalmed under another heat wave the weather stations in the Bristol Channel have been logging over 20 mph on many days.
Not spectacular conditions but warm sunny blasting with some decent chop to throw a spin loop here and there.
It is strange phenomena that this wind is neither predicted by many weather websites nor is it visible on most of the live wind readings. The exception to this is the Super forecast on Windfinder.com which does an excellent job at alerting me to incoming breezes. 27th July was a good example: WindGuru forecast 11 to 12 kn for the afternoon but Windfinder optimistically predicted gusts of 18kn whilst the Live Weather reading at Flatholm island in the middle of the Bristol Channel logged 33 mph in the late afternoon – it was a windy day!
You can clearly see Windfinder predicting this phenomenal acceleration effect on the map below for that day.
