The Gorge Paddle Challenge is one of those grand events that has risen from grassroots support and excellent organisation to become one of the world’s premiere SUP races. It’s where the sport’s best athletes rub shoulders with the weekend warriors in a true celebration of the stand up paddling culture. It’s comparable to the Carolina Cup on the East Coast or the Lost Mills over in Europe. The Gorge is one of those events you just want to be a part of. And this year it seems everyone is going to be a part of it.

Congratulations to Angela Jackon on her 2nd and Jake on his 4th position in the Gorge Double Downwinder! Angie was very impressive and finished second overall, despite a course error on the first run costing her valuable minutes and left her with all the work to do on the second run. Jake Jensen fell back to 5th on the first leg but came home strongly on the second run to leapfrog Danny into 4th place overall.

Angie Jackson: “What a race! I missed a channel marker and had to stop and paddle back and around it which made me go from sitting equal first to 6th place. I had to work my butt off and managed to get back up into 4th by the finish line. Second Downwinder was much better – I had a blast and came in 2nd place! This gave me 2nd place overall going by times. Im super happy as i really loved the conditions today and my fanatic board loves them too.”

Jake Jensen: “It was an awesome 2 days of racing here in the Gorge, Oregon. With an all star field it made for some very tough racing. It was the first time this year that practically all the best in the world were racing head to head in the same race. After the gruelling Flatwater Course Race I come out with a 6th place. I managed to pull out a 4th place in on the second day in the Downwind. Super tight racing all weekend – well done to everyone.”
