Ben Proffitt update

B@llocks B@llocks B@llocks.. Well anyone who has been following the BWA opening events will know exactly what i’m on about…  for those of you who haven’t I’ll give you a quick round up. We had the first event last weekend in Rhosneigr which was an awesome event. A great turn out and all conditions from Starboard tack down the line to full power Cross on Port tack jumping! So why the B@llocks I hear you ask..  well I finished 3rd..  not bad… I know I know but I really wanted to win and they are my conditions!! I had the moves and the local knowledge but the fleet is pretty stacked at the moment so any mistakes or bad heats are punished. I lost to an on form Adam Lewis both times in very close decisions which could have gone either way but I just wasn’t getting them. I felt a bit out of practice and it took me a while to get into it. Where as Lewis has had exactly the same conditions in El medano for the last couple of months and was fully dialed in…  So Lewis if your reading this..  take that grin off your face ‘tubs’ because I’m coming for ya!!! Haha..  and I should say well done to Horrocks as he was sailing well and took the win. We then jumped on the ferry at 2 AM to Ireland and drove through the night/early morning down to Brandon Bay and straight into the next competition. The Conditions were good as soon as we got there so we couldn’t hang about and went straight into heats. It was Cross ON ON Starboard tack for my heat and I had a bit of a death draw. As it had both Jamie Hancock and Timo in it both of whom have grown up in these conditions and love them! I didn’t have my best heat and got knocked out!!  Ooouuch…  Been a long time since I’ve been knocked out in the first round!!  It was also slightly annoying as it was a four man heat with the best 2 going through. So if it had have been man on man..  I would have been against potter and Jamie against Timo. In that scenario I would have advanced as i beat Potter. I was starting to feel this just wasn’t going to be my week. Jamie went on to finish 2nd and Timo got knocked out by John Skye who went on to win! The next day the wind swung round a touch and gave us really nice riding out on Mossies. It was pretty light but enough to get things moving and start the double..  I knew I had a big day ahead of me and couldn’t afford any mistakes. I managed to get myself  on a role and won all my heats and got all the way back up to 5th place. But then the big guy upstairs turned off the wind!!!  I was gutted as i was really dialed in and fancied my chances to challenge for the top 3. Which would have put me right back in the running for the overall. So all in all not a bad week…  results wise it wasn’t great..  but sometimes it just doesn’t go your way!!  Plus as I’ve mentioned many times the BWA is a really strong tour and has 4-5 riders in the top 20 in the world. So you really have to be on your game…  so I’m going to go away train my little titties off and make sure I come back strong for the next 2 events Tiree and Cornwall..  especially if I want the overall as I’m going to need to win them both!! Maybe I’m going to have to get some tips from the girlfriend as she was killing it and finished 1st in Rhossy with 3 wins and 2nd in Ireland after realized she can actually sail the other way round!! Well done chick . Cheers, Ben Proffitt K-800 https://benproffitt.com/
