The Huntington Beach Pro Grand Slam took over Huntington Beach with a dramatic showcase: The event saw a very solid group of young stars hit Southern California for a serious warm-up ahead of the Battle of the Paddle.
Angela Jackson looked confident throughout the opening day, coming off a win in the Chigasaki Pro in Japan last month. Powering through her first heat and coping well with the conditions she was worthy of her place in the finals and finished 2nd in the Sprints. Despite having to play catch up after a heavy start with the dumping shorebreak, Angela was able to catch up and battle her way back into second place behind Candice. On day 2 she finished 4th in the Long Distance and is now 2nd overall for the event!
Also Jake was back to where he should be in the Long Distance. Together with Connor Baxter he managed to pull a gap from the start and battled it out all the way to the shore break of the final lap, where a small wave gave Connor enough room to run up the beach into 1st. Jake settled in 2nd, overall in 5th. In the Sprints he was not too lucky losing his board in the shore break for a brief moment and knocking him out of final contention by 1 place. Managed to win the conciliation final to make up for his mistake though. There is no doubt that Jake continues to be a real threat on the World Series, and now sitting in 3rd place overall in the World coming into the Finals at Turtle Bay, it is all to play for for this young Champion from down under.
Also well done to only 16 year young Arthur Arutkin for finishing 6th in the Sprints and 7th overall as well as young wave talent Kai Bates from Australia for competing in the Wave event making it to round 4!
