The final event of the 2014 Stand Up World Series took place last weekend on the North Shore of Oahu. Based out of Turtle Bay, which sits just down the road from famed breaks such as Waimea, Sunset and Pipeline, the World Series Finals saw a very small but hyper-elite band of riders battle it out in tough conditions.
Jake Jensen finished 4th in the Long Distance on Saturday. He was leading half the race, determined to put on a repeat of his last year’s victory at the Turtle Bay Finals. But then the battle intensified between the leading pack, with Jake coming up short in the end, having to settle for a nonetheless impressive 4th place putting him in 3rd for the event. Arthur Arutkin finished 8th & Paul Jackson 11th in the Long Distance.
Angie Jackson started her campaign off well on Saturday, posting a solid 2nd place finish in the Long Distance, having battled with Fiona Wylde for much of the race to finish in runner up by the end. Angie looked pretty save for the World Title, however the biggest set of the day during the Sprints on Sunday has washed away her dream for 2014. She copped a massive 3 wave set with my whole leggie plug pulling clean out of the board. Board gone and so was her World Title.
Angela Jackson is still Vice World Champ for the SUP World Series 2014, Olivia Piana in 3rd and Jake Jensen in 4th – well done team!
