Llangennith Brutal Fun

Photo. Steve speeds along a feathering wave
The rain is horizontal I can only see about 200 m along the endless stretch of sand that  is Llangennith beach on the Gower in Wales. The rain is accompanied by gale force winds that are blowing nearly dead offshore. This combined with a sub 10° air temperature doesn't make for the most inviting windsurfing conditions. In fact I can see Steve getting absolutely hammered with his 4.7 in some vicious gusts. The sea is boiling. But the prospect of getting a few nice wave rides on the chest high swell that is marching on to the sandbanks makes me think twice. The wind Is feathering plumes of spray that mix with the driving rain as they are ripped off the top of the waves.Despite the sketchy (potentially dangerous) offshore shore wind David and I decide to go out - it is a good decision, as the afternoon progresses the waves build with the pushing tide and the wind veers round more into the South East – cross off rather than offshore. We all score some peachy wave rides. But this really feels like winter sailing – for the first time this year.I'm happy my equipment is working well: I'm ridiculously warm in my flashbomb Wetsuit (its first outing this year) and my Witchcraft Custom board is the perfect tool for todays session – let's hope for more south-easterly winds.
