Weather Bomb
Maybe I wasn’t in the right part of the country but the “weather bomb” was about as destructive as a Christmas cracker. The first fail was down on the South Coast where I wanted to try out a test board, Aleksy and his friends joined me and if it wasn’t for a few lucky gusts it would have been a real flop.
In fairness the big winds were forecast for the following day, Mike, andy, Shaun Reece and I headed for Southend’s Ray for a bit of speed. We were there for first light, not that the sight before was worth the early start though it did feel a little more promising.
Not sure the mile walk out to the Ray has many advantages but it gave the wind a little time to arrive as we walked out, though once out you realise the negative, you’re not going to walk back for a bigger sail. The wind gradually built up to planning conditions but nothing of real note, that was until the bank was just about to flood.
The wind kicked in it swung a little to deep for the speed course to work but nevertheless it was good to feel the buz of a speed board beneath my feet. This weather bomb might have been overplayed in the south of the county yet it provided a timely reminder that a bad day at the beach is better than a good day in the office.
