Wells Coastwatch Station Mng Peter Henley Sadly Dies….
Posted on 30 March, 2015 Neil Greentree
For those of us who frequently sail at Wells-Next-To-Sea know, there is a dedicated team of volunteers who watch over us every time we sail giving us the knowledge that, if we were to get into difficulties, our safety is in good hands. This service is provided by Wells Coastwatch and their team have proven invaluable in many occasions alerting the RNLI or simply co-ordinating a simply rescue of many a windsurfer, boat user and swimmer.
Peter Henley was the Station manager and oversaw the running of the station with his volunteers. He sadly passed away last Sunday after feeling chest pains and colapsing. His funeral will be held on 10th April at Mintlyn Crematorium, near King’s Lynn at 3.15PM.
Neil Greentree, Team QSW rider and principal commented “Peter Henley was often the friendly, helpful voice on the end of the phone when I called up to ask for the wind and tidal conditions at Wells prior to the 40 minute journey I would embark on. He always welcomed us windsurfers into the watchroom and promoted interaction between us both, often even coming in early or staying on late if we were still on the water. He will be really missed by the team riders who practice there and who whole windsurfing community at Wells”
Neil will be attending the service to represent the windsurfers of Wells and Team QSW who often used his expertise of the spot. All are welcome to join him – if you are looking to go just comment on this story and we will set up a meeting point.
