Wider by one centimeter, with reworked cut-aways and footstraps that have been moved backwards, the 2015 Starboard iSonic 107 Carbon is built with a stronger, higher density PVC than its competitors and an extra carbon layer between the feet for high-impact resistance.
On the Water:
With slightly less volume than other boards in this test, the iSonic tends to sink more with heavy-weights due to the short and thin nose. The planing sensation is direct with a well-distributed sailing stance, and a feeling of power and support. It rides the lowest on the water and settles nicely on the rail for long runs: perfect for slalom 8 around the buoys or long distance runs.
[...] It requires slightly more pressure and power from the legs to go fast. However, and in our opinion, it is the most competitive slalom board of the test group for a maximum of riders thanks its key asset: control!
In easy conditions and when the riders know how to exploit 100% out of any slalom board, other boards with more glide will rival with the iSonic 107. However, in strong gusts and especially when chop comes into play, the iSonic's incredible stability allows to take over its rivals as it allows you to sail at 100% physically and mentally.
Verdict:
The iSonic 107 Carbon isn't the most playful or the most lively board under foot but it's the one with the top scores in the widest range of conditions. [...] It's when the going gets though with other boards that it remains very easy with an iSonic.
