Looking Back
Just been looking back through the years pictures to pick out the best shots and realised was just what a year I’ve had. If you wanted to put a negative spin on it, then it all started before the year began when my van was written off. Once the year started I was back from Cape Town after a week with a snapped Achilles tendon and by the end of the year I’d added a couple more injuries, but that’s not how I look at 2015.
OK, my Achilles did snap but it was over due having slowed me down for the past three years, now its fixed I feel better than ever. As for the van, converting it into a camper was a challenge on one foot but I learnt new skills and have a van that’s feels like the perfect balance between comfort and a sport garage. What ever I want to do, SUP, Kite, or windsurf I’m not only good to go but can wake up in comfort right by the beach.
The team has grown with more RRD riders bringing not only great results but a great atmosphere and best of all I’ve been able to work along side my son to watch him grow, what has all gone to serve me up a new level of enthusiasm for our sports. SUP is still new to me, though having caught a few great waves this year the bug has got me and for the first time I can look forward to no wind days with expectation.
That said wind still drives my heart and while I’ve been kitesurfing for a good few years I’ve reached a level when I feel confidant to join in what ever the conditions, though my goal for 2016 is to learn wave kite as I’m still feeling like a beginner. On the other hand it feels like I’ve never windsurfed better and still luring.
While I’ll never be a proper wave sailor I’ve enjoyed the learning over the last years and had had a couple of turns that stoked me, just need an areal and I’ll be in heaven. At the other end of windsurfing I figured I’d already been awarded the title of “Has Been” but by quirk of fate a crash in the waves meant I nurse an injury by just sailing on flat water. WOW, I hear about people getting their Mojo back, now I know what they mean.
2015 may be over but the UK speed series runs until September and while there’s a long way to go I can’t tell you how happy I am to be going into 2016 sitting on top of the leader board and yet feeling I’ve got a lot more speed inside me. So which ever way you look at like I’d just like to thank everyone who helped me through the negative and motivated me in the positives and say Happy New year to you all.
