2018 Overview

What an incredible year 2018 at the Lüderitz Speed Challenge

The LSC Team is thankful and grateful for all the help und support from Sponsors, Locals and all people involved to make this happen!

Thanks to all riders to have lived the spirit of friendship and support within each other and making this event a very special and fantastic Lüderitz Speed Challenge 2018!

Live Ranking:

Live ranking changed the access for all people around the world to follow instantly the results of each rider at real time on our website. This was only possible with the strong cooperation of Manfred Fuchs (legend in Timekeeping) since the 2017 LSC Event. We are improving day by day and season by season and are up to new challenges for the 2019 Event.

Channel:

These year again proved to be a challenge not only on behalf of Speed-Windsurfing and Kitesurfing but also to make the channel faster. Intense research and development on the outline, entry to the run and shape of the bottom of the channel changed again and improved the base speed from 1-2knots.

We achieved (the riders) much higher entry speed right away from the start with up to 2-3knots and registered several times on different days 51-53knots of speed at the starting camera.

This will change a lot on the set up of the gear for 2019 as the peak speeds are not that evident all over. It’s more about how to keep these high speeds over the run of 500m high and constant. This will result in new developments of the gear in general.

9 national records are the proof and the new 50knots is 52knots for the coming years.

Dutch National Record and fastest time 2018 – Hans Kreisel – 52.26knots

German National Record – Gunnar Asmussen – 51.91knots

Spanish National Record – Pep Bonnet – 50.48knots

Belgian National Record – Vincent Valkenaers – 51.71knots

Australian National Record – Steve Allen – 50.23knots

Irish National Record – Oisin van Gelderen – 47.97knots

Norwegian National Record – Morten Knutsen – 43.50knots

Canadian National Record – Pierre Pilon – 33.31knots

Norwegian Women’s National Record – Miriam Rasmussen – 43.05knots

South African Women’s National Record – Karo van Tonder – 41.25knots

We are proud and very happy about these achievements!!!

We also congratulate all riders for improving their personal bests on a high level with lots of runs over 50knots.
