Westwind Young Gun Sommercamp: 26th June – 1st July

A dream comes true!

A stronger community among the youngest surfers as well as making it possible for the kids to raise the level, were the ambitions that motivated Mette Velling to create the very first Young Gun Camp ten years ago. Since then Hvide Sande has been full of windsurf enthusiastic kids every summer, and more than 300 kids have been participating in the Young Gun Camp.

And for the team behind the camp the mission is fulfilled over and over again every year, when friendships across the country are created and the addiction for the sport keeps growing among the participators. ”The community is a very important part of the camp. The kids create friendships across the country which means they’ll have a network of other young windsurfers, when they return to their homes,” Mette Velling says. The concept of the camp is simple; it’s lots of windsurfing and fun together with a community of new friends combined with tuition from the best instructors in safe conditions.

During the camp the young guns literally live at the waters edge. ”Every hour is spent in, on or by the water. I think that is one of reasons for the success – there is no wasted time” Mette Velling explains. ”For a lot of the kids a love for being in nature is founded during the camp. It’s healthy and nice for the kids to forget about social media and so on for a while – just enjoying friends, windsurfing and the nature.”

Hvide Sande, which is the base of the camp, is a mecca for water sports in Denmark. With Ringkøbing Fjord and The North Sea surrounding Hvide Sande this place has it all. The West Wind shops have three stations around Ringkøbing Fjord, which provides the best conditions for the young gun participators to improve their skills. All the West Wind shops have good experience with hosting events and the shops offers everything from surf school, rental and sale of equipment.
